 'Iqbal' star steps into Hussain's boots

NEW DELHI: From deaf-mute cricketer to celebrated painter - few can switch roles with such ease. Fresh after the astounding success of 'Iqbal,' actor Shreyas Talpade is ready for the daunting task of essaying the role of MF Hussain in 'The Making of a Painter.'
Interestingly, the 90-year-old painter had been bowled over by the young actor's performance in 'Iqbal' and offered him the lead role in his autobiographical venture.
Making it to the big screen did not come easy for the talented Marathi stage and television actor. Hardly anyone knows that Talpade made his Bollywood debut with a blink-and-you-miss-him part in the 2002 blockbuster 'Aankhen’.
The young Mumbaikar had just begun his innings in television and immediately agreed to do the bit role.
But it is 'Iqbal' which remains close to Talpade's heart as his first lead role in a Hindi film. Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor's saga of a deaf-mute village boy's struggle to make it to the Indian cricket team achieved the rare double of box-office success and critical acclaim.
Also in the pipeline is Marathi film 'Bayo' - a love-story set in the 1940s - in which Talpade plays the male lead.
According to the young actor, it's only a mere coincidence that his first two major releases fit into the category of what is often dubbed ‘parallel cinema’.
Talpade also reveals his dreams of working with "a never-ending list of filmmakers" which includes the likes of Rajkumar Santoshi, Mani Rathnam, and Aditya Chopra.
